Recognising the increase in Anti-Social Behaviour in the Sunbury Area, Spelthorne Lib Dems have been liaising with the Council to help make residents and businesses feel safer.
Cllr Tom Fidler and Cllr Kathy Grant enquired with the Neighbourhood Safety Team at Spelthorne Borough Council about the prospect of installing CCTV on the shopping parade in Green Street. This followed concerns raised by residents in School Walk, Blacksmith Close, Green Street and discussion with the businesses on the parade.
A consultation letter is being delivered to residents in the area, a copy of which can be found here
Commenting, Cllr Tom Fidler said: "I'm delighted that the foundations have been put in place and that we can offer some practical solutions to aid businesses and residents alike. This scheme will act as a deterrent in the first instance, but also to help prosecute if required. The Council have been working with the Police on the issue and we believe this positive step is in everyone's interests and shows commitment from authorities to help and show that we, the Lib Dems and the authorities, are listening and acting on their concerns".
This follows the news that Cllr Bernie Spoor has been elected as our Police and Crime Panel representative for Spelthorne Borough Council which shows that we are committed to improving the quality of protection for Spelthorne residents. The use of Dispersal Orders around has been very encouraging, but we need long-term upturns.
