Spelthorne Lib Dems - Green Belt Land near Hazelwood, Sunbury ()Angle Property respond to concerns raised by Councillors and Residents

Having received concerned emails from residents, Ward Cllrs Sandra Dunn, Tom Fidler and Lawrence Nichols have raised the concerns of the residents with landowners over the land next to the 1st Sunbury Scout Hut between Hazelwood Drive and School Walk. The Land is owned by Angle Property who the team has been in touch with and we wanted to share an update.
Land Status - This land is designated Green Belt land. It has been put forward by Angle for consideration as part of the Local Plan process. Angle has stated that they have no intentions of bringing forward any application at this stage. We are opposed to Development on the Green Belt and have supported a brownfield approach to the Local Plan Process and are pushing for more details and updates on the timeline for this to be considered. We are concerned that the Government has tried to raise our housing figure again to 606 per annum, beyond any sustainable number we consider appropriate for the borough. We are holding the administration to account to ensure that they push back vehemently against this.
Landscaping Work - We expressed our disappointment that there was little notice given to us about the works they were planning on undertaking. Whilst we recognise that this land was popular for berry picking, this is something beyond our Control. In discussion, we did raise our concerns that we did not want too much cutting back to take place. They have acknowledged what we said, and were keen to state that they have done an environmental assessment to ensure they were not harming any protected animals and were avoiding disrupting habitats. It is understood that some parts were becoming too unwieldy hence doing these works. They have also been undertaking soil sampling on the site.
Right of Way - We repeated our ongoing support for the dedication of the right of way that exists through the land. This remains something that we are keen to see brought forward as an important asset for people wanting to travel around the area. We have received the following from Angle's representative:
"I am pleased to confirm that Angle Property is fully committed to maintaining the pedestrian and transport link that is in place through the site currently. Angle is also happy to maintain a link through the site post any future development, obviously this is subject to approval by Spelthorne Council Officers."
Whilst this is not perfect, this is progress in the fight to preserve this important thoroughfare for safety on School Walk and for people walking around Sunbury, something we are very keen to promote. We will be meeting with Angle to discuss this, and other aspects, further in the coming weeks. We will also ask that any design statement incorporates the path should an application ever come forward.
We will continue to monitor the situation and always are happy to answer any questions on this that you may have . However, if you have any questions specific for the developers, please do contact Angle directly here - http://www.angleproperty.co.uk/contact-us.html
