Surrey Conservatives vote FOR EVEN MORE HGV disruption at 'Eco Park'

March 26, 2021 12:23 PM

Spelthorne Liberal Democrats Eco Park HGV extended hours ()Conservatives chose to ignore Spelthorne Council's and residents views. Only the Liberal Democrat member on the Panel voted against whilst Lower Sunbury & Halliford Tory Councillor voted for.

Spelthorne Liberal Democrats are dismayed that Surrey Conservatives members of the Planning and regulatory committee voted to approve Suez's application to allow extended hours for HGVs.

Our objection letter, submitted to the officers and to all members can be found here

The implication of this decision is that gates will be opened at 6am for HGVs to go into the site. Present experience has already seen how HGV drivers regularly arrive early and wait along roads to get into the site, a problem that will only be moved earlier with this decision.

Commenting Lib Dem Councillor Lawrence Nichols said: "I am so disappointed that despite the time and efforts of local residents and Residents Associations, that Surrey County Council have failed to listen to Spelthorne.

We are still being used as Surrey's dumping ground, the implication of decisions being that we are still stuck with the uncertainty surrounding this white elephant which has been given carte blanche to continue to create major disruption. I'm grateful to Cllr Cooksey who was brave enough to stand up for our area and local residents in the face of members on the committee who described residents' concerns as 'bewildering'. Surrey County Council needs to be accountable. They had the opportunity to support residents and chose to ignore them, it is simply not good enough."

We would like to thank all residents who raised their objections. Spelthorne Liberal Democrats have not ignored the issues raised and will be pushing for tighter enforcement and monitoring the situation closely and will expect changes should the problem worsen.

If residents have any complaints and concerns, do not forget to report to the responsible bodies. More information on that we have collected here
