Cedars Recreation Ground gets a facelift
The project to lay a path around the perimeter of Cedars Recreation Ground was suggested by a local Sunbury resident who was having problems using the park for her disabled son as pushing a chair around without a solid path was difficult. Around the same time local Councillors were given a Windfall Grant from Spelthorne and this has been used for the project which started at the beginning of September.
The old cricket pavilion was demolished and the new path laid from the tennis courts finishing at the entrance to the park with a letdown suitable for push/wheel chairs at this point. There are also plans for landscaping, in several places, with wild flower seed beds and adding bushes and trees to improve the environment and encourage butterflies and bees.
Liberal Democrat Councillor Sandra Dunn has been working with her fellow Councillors to pull this project together and the next phase of the project is to cut back some of the overgrown bushes and trees and do a general tidying up of the areas around the perimeter of the park. New bushes and shrubs have been purchased to add colour to areas that were previously overgrown, for example, Apple Blossom, Berberis & Euonymus Japonicus. New trees will also be planted in other places around the edges and there are plans to buy some benches for along the top half of the park. During October volunteers from Spelthorne's National History Society planted 4000 spring bulbs in the area around the Tennis Courts and during early November the new bushes and trees will be planted so this project is far from complete.
Councillor Sandra Dunn is looking forward to seeing the results of the planting and the imrovements to the Cedars during 2018.
