A statement from the Liberal Democrats in light of today's events
Conservative infighting is disappointing; but we'll continue to fight for you
The Spelthorne Liberal Democrats are disappointed that Conservative infighting has come to a head again during a time when we are all trying to pull together. Far from the inclusive and positive effort that we have contributed and supported during this crisis, we now find ourselves in a situation that distracts from key issues. Nonetheless, as the Council moves into No Overall Control for the first time in its history, it is right that we as the Liberal Democrats, the main opposition party look to ensure stability and an optimistic outcome that puts residents first.
The Liberal Democrat group are committed to what matters; Dealing with residents issues, maintaining scrutiny of important council business, trying to improve the provision of sustainable living and improve the quality of life for residents from all backgrounds. Nothing changes from us in this regard.
We will, as would be expected, engage with all parties and Councillors about how we can find agreement to ensure that Spelthorne does not stagnate and to ensure that we are not neglecting residents. We have upcoming meetings to deal with some of the important matters, and will continue to feedback to residents through our social media platforms and website as we have been doing. We also trust that the allegations made in the statement released by the Leader of the Council and colleagues will be investigated fully as there is no place for discrimination.
In the meantime, as your elected representatives we continue to look to ways to improve Council business amid the backdrop of important financial activity and significant development proposed in our area. We encourage all residents with concerns or comments to get in touch with any of the team to help us build a better future here in Spelthorne.
