No to Charlton Lane Incinerator (Eco Park)

Spelthorne: following their spectacular U-turn, to suddenly oppose the Charlton Incinerator on the run up to the 2011 local elections have again shown that it was a totally hollow cosmetic gesture. Already they have broken their word to residents telling them they would oppose the divergence of a foot path needed to make the scheme happen, but writing to Surrey saying they had 'No Objection'

In their latest let down Lib Dem councillors, Richard and Sandra Dunn, identified some community money to contribute to the fighting fund being set up by residents. Spelthorne's Conservative administration refused the application on the following grounds…

  • Against the community plan
  • long term revenue implication
  • It was party political

Richard & Sandra responded:

  • The community plan is about improving and protecting our environment. How does having an incinerator do this?
  • This is a one off grant. What are the on going revenue implications that you claim?
  • All political parties say they oppose the scheme How is it party political?

The Tory administration ignored the question and instead just repeated the reasons and maintained the block on the money.

It is the very poor nature of these reasons which reveal just how strong is the Conservative hidden agenda to support the Incinerator.
