Charlton Incinerator: The Four Key Tory Betrayals

3 May 2015

Conservatives are still trying to pretend they oppose the Incinerator at Charlton. This is not true. They made lots of noise but that was easy. When it mattered most they totally stabbed local residents in the back. The most important thing to note here is that ALL Documents are official ones from the Tory councils themselves - Not political propaganda.

Betrayal #1

2007 Waste Enquiry - Spelthorne are the only authority stupid enough to say YES to a 'modest' incinerator (up to 60,000 ton) and 4 years on that is what we got!

Betrayal #2

Nov 2010 - Spelthorne Tories say YES to the Joint Waste Plan which includes the developments at Charlton. They raised NO objections to any of the developments at Charlton. Just on details and targets. (Note pages 26 & 30 of the Joint Waste management report).

Betrayal #3

22nd Dec 2010 - Spelthorne Planning Committee comment on the most important Eco Park application. The ONLY thing they object to is that the time scale was too short! NOTHING ELSE. Surrey County Council simply voted themselves an extension of time taking away Spelthorne's ONLY objection.

Betrayal #4

Footpath 70 - This had to me moved to make space for the Incinerator. Spelthorne told residents they would oppose the move, but of course that was not true. They secretly wrote to Surrey (twice) and said 'No Objection'.
