Spelthorne Liberal Democrats are encouraging residents to support Spelthorne Borough Council's objection to the extension of opening hours to the 'Eco Park' for HGVs. Having sought clarity with Spelthorne Officers, Spelthorne had raised its objection when the original consultation came forward, a copy of which can be found here. A decision on the matter is due this month and therefore we want to encourage as many residents to respond as possible.

The details of the application can be found here.

Find below the email sent by local Lib Dem Councillors to the Case Officer, Duncan Evans in objection:

Dear Mr Evans,

We write as Borough Councillors for Halliford & Sunbury West to object to the application SP20/00513/SCRVC. This relates to the opening of the Eco Park site earlier for HGVs. We do not believe that the early opening will help residents, but instead, move the problem to an even earlier hour.

In Spelthorne Borough Council's report produced on the 8th July 2020 (Attached to support our objection), they report:

'That Surrey County Council be advised that this authority raises an objection to the proposal as it will encourage HGVs to arrive at the site earlier and cause noise and disturbance on the local roads at an unsociable hour to the detriment of the amenity of local residents.

Residents already face significant disruption caused by HGVs, most notably seen in a recent incident on the roundabout in Halliford leading onto the Halliford Bypass. The proposition of this application would not do anything to solve the problem, but exacerbate the situation when residents are already negatively impacted by the site.

Kind regards

Cllr Tom Fidler, Cllr Lawrence Nichols and Cllr Sandra Dunn
(With the agreement of the Spelthorne Liberal Democrat group)
