Drinks' carton recycling facilities added to five Spelthorne bring sites
Spelthorne Council has introduced carton recycling facilities into five sites in the Borough. Cllr Caroline Nichols has welcomed this addition to recycling facilities, having campaigned for the introduction of this scheme for over 15 months.
The five sites to which you can take your clean 'Tetrapak-style' liquids cartons to are:
1) Halliford Recreation Ground car park Upper Halliford
2) The Avenue Car Park (Orchard Meadow) Sunbury
3) Village Park Car Park, Hadrian Way, Stanwell
4) Elmsleigh Surface Car park, Staines
5) Lammas Recreation Car Park, Staines
The large green bins are for the composite paper cartons only (including for example fruit juice, milk and soup cartons), not drinks cans or glass bottles. The cartons are about 85% wood pulp and this can be extracted and used again.
At present there are no carton banks at any Surrey County Council site so cartons cannot be recycled at the Charlton site.
Cllr Caroline Nichols, Spelthorne's Shadow Environment Portfolio holder has been pressing the Council to introduce this facility since she was elected for the first time last May. She said 'All the Councils around us had already installed some form of drinks carton recycling and the Tetrapak company were promoting free installation of collection banks at designated sites. The collection service is free and must be welcomed as it stops more waste from going to landfill.'
