Fire Cover: We have been betrayed.

Spelthorne Council have decided to sell the Green Belt land to Surrey which they need to build their new Fire station in order to make the cuts to our Fire Service a reality. They did so with barely a whimper of complaint - they need the money. Well of course they need the money they want to spend £287k re surfacing the top floor of the Elmsleigh car park. They spent £60k on a 'feasibility study' of Laleham Park- and now claim they have no plans for it. At the last budget meeting they 'Lost' £40k of identified savings (which were deemed 'insignificant' by the Tory leader)

To clarify:

1) Spelthorne Tories say they are opposed to cutting our Fire Cover

2) Spelthorne Tories say they are opposed to building in the Green belt

3) Spelthorne Tories need the cash to bank roll serious mistakes elsewhere

Nevertheless it was really quite depressing listening to their willingness to sell us down river.

One very chilling but revealing thing emerged which clarifies a lot of things beyond the Fire Station.

It was made clear that it is not Spelthorne's duty to stop another public body carrying out its duty !!!

In other words, according to Conservatives, it is not Spelthorne's duty to Stop Surrey building the Incinerator (not Eco park) despite claiming to support residents opposing it. Despite recognising what an environmental disaster it would be.

It explains why they agreed the Surrey Minerals plans with its huge increase in gravel raising in Splethorne. 30% of all new mineral extraction sites for the whole of Surrey are in Splethorne.

This is the Liberal democrat case AGAINST a sell off which puts us all at risk
