Fire threat

The Tories promised that at the very least we would have a second part time Fire Engine in Spelthorne are on the verge of breaking that promise.

Nicola Cornes protesting against fire service cuts

Tory controlled Surrey County Council are proposing to shut Staines Fire Station next April and leave us with just one Fire Engine in Spelthorne. Initially the fire engine would be based at Sunbury, but would move the Fordbridge site when they eventually manage to undo the mess they have made and build the new station.

Lib Dem campaigner Nicola Cornes, who set up the online petition against the closures said "This is terrible. We need two Fire Engines in Spelthorne. The Surrey County Council plan assumes that support can quickly arrive from across the river. This plan is not realistic as it relies on the bridges always being free of congestion and as we all know they are not."

Nicola Continued "What Surrey County Council are proposing will put people's lives at risk, so I have created an online petition and I would ask everyone to sign and share it as a matter of urgency."
