Gravel working starts at Watersplash Farm
Watersplash Farm has long been identified as a site for gravel extraction, but now work has started. Around the edge of the site, soil is being piled up into bunds to shield the site. It is reasonable to assume that gravel extraction will commence shortly.
As a consequence of our local geology there is a lot of gravel in Spelthorne. Over the years many sites have had their gravel extracted for use in building projects. The extraction process is noisy and dirty and involves a lot of heavy lorry movements.
However the bigger problem in Spethorne is the failure of the extraction companies to fulfil their promises to reinstate or otherwise restore the land in a timely fashion. In most cases restoration work is postponed and rarely does it live up to the promises made when planning permission is granted.
According to the Planning consent, access will be via a new access road from the Gaston Bridge Road/Green Lane roundabout. This is an area where there are already significant traffic congestion on a daily basis. We can look forward to more large lorries on the roads on this area.
Local Liberal Democrats will be keeping a close eye on this new industrial site and doing our best to make sure the operators, Cemex, meet their obligations in full.
