Green Belt Land Grab

25 May 2008
Hands off our Green Belt

What Lib Dem councillors feared may happen, has. Spelthorne's complete mess up of their new master plan, the Local Development Framework (LDF) has opened the way for a huge land grab by greedy developers intent only on a quick profit. Green Belt sites all over Spelthorne are now under threat in a way they have never been before.

While Spelthorne has done the legal minimum of informing people closest to the affected sites it has done nothing useful to let a wider group of residents know what is going on. The announcement was in minute type on page 49 of a local newspaper you have to go and buy. It may be legal, but consultation or informing the public it isn't.

About 40 sites have been identified for possible redevelopment, over half in the green belt. The list also includes two youth clubs, a social services centre and an adult education centre. All of Spelthorne's communities are effected

You can comment on any of the sites by the 27th of June. Copies of the submissions are in local libraries. The link below will take you to a summary of the sites under threat.
