Harry Boparai calls for GP practices to be properly resourced
This week the Liberal Democrats announced their plan to recruit 8,000 more GPs, target an extra 65 million appointments a year and to make sure that no one has to wait more than 7 days to see their doctor. The Liberal Democrats are also putting forward a ten-year plan to invest in hospitals to end the scandal of crumbling roofs, dangerous concrete and life-expired buildings.
Harry Boparai, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Spelthorne has been talking to voters every day, and there has been unanimous concern about the NHS. The Liberal Democrats have a coherent plan to provide a Fair Deal for Health and are committed to making the required funding available by reversing tax cuts to banks and from other sources.
To get a diagnosis, medication or just reassurance you need to be able to get an appointment with a GP. The level of resource available in Primary Care has completely failed to match the demand. The Conservatives have failed to deliver on their 2019 promise of 6,000 extra GPs.
Recently Harry visited one of the largest GP practices in Spelthorne to get a better understanding of the pressure the surgery is under and commented:
“I have learned a lot about the pressure this GP practice is under and how the staff are going above and beyond. There is a very urgent need for extra resources in Primary Care.
“People want to know that there is a thought-through plan that will make a real difference. We all deserve to be certain that the service will be there when we need it. Nobody that I have spoken to has told me that the NHS is safe in Conservative hands.”
