History is made in Spelthorne

7 May 2023

On 4th May 2023 the Conservative party lost an election in Spelthorne for the first time in history and the biggest winners were the Liberal Democrats.

There are now TEN Liberal Democrat Councillors in Spelthorne, elected in Staines, Laleham and Sunbury, who in co-operation with other progressive parties and independents have taken control of the council from the Tories.

The independents have 7 seats, the Labour Party 7 and the Greens 2.  (The Conservatives have 12 councillors)

Our aims will be to

  • address the borough's huge financial problems inherited from the Tories.
  • improve the democratic accountability of the council
  • protect the green belt
  • improve provision for young people
  • reduce crime
