A new office to help people find jobs and improve their skills has been opened in Staines

Lib Dem Councillor Sandra Dunn opened the new office of Fedcap Employment in Staines on Friday 4 March.

Not-for-profit organisation Fedcap Employment is delivering the UK Government's Restart Scheme in the region, helping the long-term unemployed to pick up skills for the modern workplace, fill local vacancies, and get the experience and confidence to find a suitable job and build sustainable careers.

The Restart Scheme has been designed to support people who have been out of work for nine months or longer with tailored support and is part of the Plan for Jobs agenda which aims to help the county bounce back from the coronavirus pandemic.

The new office, at Mallard Court in Market Square, will be Fedcap Employment's base for its work. The organisation's frontline team are on hand to help with everything from updating CVs to tackling health concerns, and from impressing at interviews to launching new start-up businesses.

The 15-strong team are already working with some of the region's leading employers, including Thames Water, Royal Mail, Sainsbury's, Tesco, Asda and XPO Logistics.

And since Fedcap began delivering the scheme last year, it has supported more than 1,300 people across the South Central area of England to successfully find new jobs - including 71 people in Staines.

Cllr Sandra Dunn, chairman of Spelthorne Borough Council's Community Wellbeing and Housing Committee, said: "It was a pleasure to attend and officially open Fedcap's office in Staines today. The work that the team is doing in the local area is absolutely wonderful. There is a niche requirement for support around health and wellbeing within our community, so it is wonderful that you can not only help them find sustainable employment but also offer them the support they need to manage this."

Brian Bell, Chief Executive at Fedcap Employment, said: "We're delighted to be opening up this new office in Staines, where we're already making a difference to people's lives.

"We're not about quick fixes - we're here to make a long-term, positive impact to the community. Every day, we see people picking up the skills, confidence and experience they need to restart their careers and we're just proud to be a part of it."
