Lib Dems Maintain Pressure on Heathrow

12 Oct 2008

Local Liberal Democrats are continuing to campaign against the possible 3rd runway at Heathrow airport. At their annual conference recently Parliamentary Spokesman Mark Chapman urged the party to maintain the pressure on the Government and Lib Dem Shadow Transport Secretary, Norman Baker, affirmed Lib Dem opposition to the scheme.

Sadly the same cannot be said about the Conservatives. Mark commented "The Tories are in total disarray. Whilst nationally they claim to be against Heathrow expansion, locally they wholeheartedly support it. What is needed is an airport better integrated into the transport needs of the country. The Tories cannot be trusted on this issue. Only the Lib Dems have been consistent nationally and locally and we will continue to campaign against expansion".
