Manifesto commitment to genuine investment in the NHS
“Liberal Democrats believe that people should be in control of their own lives and health and that means everyone should get the care they need, when they need it, where they need it.” Liberal Democrat Manifesto
The NHS is failing to meet the demands being placed on it. This is a direct result of the neglect that the Conservatives have demonstrated during their period in office. The quality of care has declined in almost every aspect of the services and there has been a massive fall in public confidence.
The Liberal Democrats recognise that reversing this trend requires both more money and also some different thinking. Critical to this is recognising the role that Social Care has in taking some of the pressure off the medical services. Proper care will keep people independent and out of hospitals, freeing up medical professional time and hospital beds.
Harry Boparai, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Spelthorne said:
“As a local resident I can see the problems that so many people in Spelthorne experience every day, whether it is getting an appointment with a GP or a dentist, or being able to access care to enable someone to keep their independence. Like the vast majority of people in this country, my family and I depend upon the NHS. Therefore the Liberal Democrats will substantially increase investment in our NHS and Social Care; nothing is more important.”
The Liberal Democrats are making a commitment to:
- Giving everyone the right to see a GP or the most appropriate practice staff member within seven days
- Guaranteeing access to an NHS dentist for everyone needing urgent and emergency care
- Working towards a fairer and more sustainable long-term funding model for pharmacies
- Improving early access to mental health services
- Helping people spend more years of their life in good health
- Training, recruiting and retaining the doctors, nurses and other NHS staff we need
- Fixing the life-threatening crisis in our ambulance services
- Enabling patients to leave hospital when they no longer need to be there by investing in social care
- Harnessing the benefits of new technology and digital tools for patients
- Providing a fair funding deal for hospices
