New charges for domestic waste disposal will encourage fly-tipping

10 Oct 2016

Tory run Surrey have started to charge for some of the items we want to take to the tip. We greatly fear that the "tax" will increase fly tipping across the borough as individuals are met with huge costs for disposal of their rubbish.

The charges are to compensate for the large cuts the Tories are making in almost every area, and include items such as waste from alteration or repair of your home and garden, for example plasterboard, breeze blocks, bricks, rubble, soil, stones, turf, bathroom fittings and tiles. The first bag of such waste will be free as long as it does not weigh more than 25 kg. BUT… if you cannot lift 25 kg and put the waste into two bags, you will be charged for the second bag and all subsequent bags (£4 per bag). Tyres from cars, motorcycles and all other motorised vehicles, will be £5 per tyre!

Cllr Sandra Dunn said "This is madness. Now that the Tories are going to charge for many items, that were previously free. This will put more people off re-cycling, Spelthorne already has the lowest rate of re-cyclinging Surrey! This can only make things worse."
