New Councillor Harry Boparai on the Sunbury Hub

Harry was recently elected as Surrey County Councillor for Sunbury Common and Ashford Common Division

During my campaign I pledged to the residents we would get the best use out of the old fire station site. I am pleased to say I have visited the proposal presentation and quizzed the team heavily and overall it's good news.

My biggest concern was the residential side of things and I've been assured that only 12 one bed units will be built and these will be social housing for the vulnerable with room for a carer if required. On the commercial floor which can have a maximum of two tenants our request was that we have a citizens advice or something along those lines that serves the community.

When canvassing it came across tragically that too many residents were just existing and looked lost. During these difficult strange times a new community hub like this would give them them people some hope. This project will finally protect the future of the library and adult services as well as encourage a new generation to visit libraries. A new focal point for community activities and where a a range of community services we will make sure is created. Naturally we will watch carefully how things progress and also make sure no adult courses are cut.

Surrey councils slogan is 'no one left behind'. I will always hold them to account on this and try my hardest to make sure our residents get what they deserve. Rest assured I will be watching every move closely as this project is very close to my heart and what I'm all about which is the community.
