Recycling Fiasco - Fly Tipping

Fly tipping

Local Liberal Democrat campaigner, Tom Fidler, is horrified by the increase in fly-tipping following changes to charing policy by Surrey County Council and writes:

The latest update on the recycling centres is that all domestic building waste such as rubble, plaster and soil will be charged at £4 a bag from January 2018. There are also some sites in Surrey that will close 4 days a week so that the council can reduce costs. We have seen a marked increase in fly tipping across the borough in the last 12 months and are fearful that the decision to charge for this type of waste will further escalate the problem.

We all pay council tax to have our refuse collected and many of us are quite happy to take any excess to the recycling centre, but, we ask, "What happens next? Is the weekly collection from our doorsteps threatened? What are we paying for? Why should we be charged to recycle our rubbish?"
