There is still time to comment on the Local Plan, details of which were included in an 8-page supplement in the latest Borough Bulletin. If you haven't already done so, take a look.

The Plan includes a number of aspects which will affect everyone who lives in Spelthorne.

If you have any views on the contents of the plan you have until 21st January to submit your comments. Some of the key issues in the plan are:

  • How the Council intends to build the 603 homes per year that the government are requiring to be built in the borough.
  • Which Green Belt land will be lost to housing development.
  • How the Council intends to build new affordable housing.
  • How high density housing will be built in the urban areas.

This is not the end of the process, but it is the last chance to comment on what sites are to be allocated for new houses. It is already apparent that in those localities that are directly affected there is a high level of local dissatisfaction with the plan. If you are at all concerned you should make the Council aware of your feelings directly and not rely on others to do it for you.

Details of the local plan can be seen on the Council website at https://www.spelthorne.gov.uk/localplan.

Your local Liberal Democrat councillors will be making a group response which will not focus on individual sites but will instead look at the details of the new policies and associated activities. This will be published on this website in the middle of January. In addition individual councillors will be making site specific comments related to their Wards.
