Tories AGREE on street Parking Charges

26,289 That's the number of people who signed an on-line petition against Conservative plans to introduce Car parking charges at Ashford, Shepperton, Sunbury Cross and other local shopping centres across the county. Added to several other e-petitions and paper petitions (including our own) more than 50,000 have rejected the Tories mad scheme.

Having cynically blocked debate until after the elections, a petition signed by residents across the Conservative run county forced a debate on the issue just after the election. The petition simply called for the scrapping of the scheme across the county, So to support the petition was to say "NO" to the charges.

ALL Liberal Democrats supported the residents petition which reflected the views of so many people across the county. However the Conservative majority rejected your views in a breathtaking display of arrogance and contempt.

Local Councillor Colin Strong who led the Lib Dem campaign in Spelthorne against the Tories mad scheme said "It is not over yet. Lib Dems will oppose this parking charges scheme every step of the way."
