Why we need a Local MP
The residents of Spelthorne have the chance to make history on 4th July. Popular local councillor, Harry Boparai, could become the first MP for Spelthorne who actually lives here.
Previous Conservative MPs have always promised to move here if elected, but Kwasi Kwarteng chose to live in Greenwich. Spelthorne residents have been taken for granted for years by Tory careerist politicians who have not cared at all about the constituency they purport to represent.
On the doorstep we have been hearing a clear and consistent message – residents want a local MP, one who is already part of the community.
Having a local MP is more than just about not wanting an outsider to represent you, it has real practical benefits. A good local candidate will:
- know and understand the social and economic characteristics of the area
- have pre-existing relationships with people and local organisations
- know the local geography and appreciate the relevance to local issues
- have a genuine stake in our community
Harry Boparai, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Spelthorne is a genuine local candidate and offers the best choice for Spelthorne.
Harry is a councillor in both Spelthorne and Surrey County Council. In the years he has lived in Spelthorne he has built strong personal links with a wide range of organisations and individuals.
