Stanwell & Stanwell Moor Liberal Democrats are delighted to announce that local champion Gerald Gravett has been selected as the Liberal Democrat candidate for the Stanwell and Stanwell Moor division in next May's County Council elections. 

Gerald has lived in the local area for over forty years and personally experiences the issues affecting his neighbours. Gerald says that “Stanwell and Stanwell Moor has many issues that seem to have been either ignored or unsatisfactorily dealt with for so long. A fresh approach is needed.” 

Gerald has had a varied career. He coached a team of four 12 year olds to swim the English Channel and his school to be National junior champions. Gerald was Staines Swimming Club's chief coach for fourteen years & also coached World champion boxer John Conteh and Olympic hurdler Alan Pascoe for the popular TV programme 'Superstars.'

He has also been a union representative, school governor & member of the Swimming Association's National Facilities committee. which advised local authorities.

Gerald is a competitive team player, whose experience in the courts and team sports will be an asset in council committees and debates. He joined the Liberal Democrats because he believes in their sense of co-operation and fairness of approach. Gerald also values that the Liberal Democrats are not funded by big business or trade unions. They represent ordinary local residents and are renowned for their community politics

They also care deeply about the environment and have campaigned in particular for clean water - a subject close to Gerald's heart, given his background of involvement in open water swimming. He is an avid critic of water companies & their dismal track record.

Gerald despairs at the confrontational two-party system and thinks that Stanwell and Stanwell Moor deserve a fresh approach from someone who lives locally. His immediate priorities if elected will be to tackle littering and pollution, taxi and holiday parking, anti-social behaviour and the creation of new recreational facilities for all ages. Gerald is current working on an action plan for Stanwell and Stanwell Moor
