Sunbury Liberal Democrats are delighted to announce that local champion, Richard Herman, has been selected as the Lib Dem candidate for the Lower Sunbury & Halliford division in next May’s Surrey County Council election.
Richard is well aware of local issues as he has lived in Lower Sunbury for almost forty years. He now has the time to serve on the council as he recently retired as managing director of his own business which employed 27 staff. Richard's company exported to America & the rest of Europe, so he knows from personal experience the impact of Brexit on business.
One of the reasons why Richard joined the Liberal Democrats almost 40 years ago is because the party is both pro-business & pro-employee. A good company values both its customers & staff. Consequently Richard is appalled by the activities of companies like Thames Water.
Richard's priorities, if elected, will be crime prevention, improving social care & climate change. Like other local Lib Dem councillors Richard also attaches great importance to basic essentials such as the provision of clean water, maintaining the roads & pavements & getting the grass cut. Lib Dems are renowned for their "pavement politics."
Richard was very active in his support for both Paul Kennedy, as Police & Crime Commissioner, and Harry Boparai, as the Lib Dem candidate in the recent General Election. Harry, who is the county councillor for Sunbury Common, fully endorses Richard's candidature. Harry says, "Richard & I will make a great team to represent Sunbury on Surrey County Council, which the Conservatives have controlled since 1889."
In the last county council election in 2021 the Conservatives beat the Liberal Democrats in Lower Sunbury and Halliford by just 30 votes.
