Disgraced Tory MP, David Wilshire, has been severely criticised by David Cameron for using inappropriate language in emails to constituents. In reply to abusive emails from members of the public he described the current criticism of himself and other MPs as a "witch hunt" and drew parallels with the Holocaust.
At the Spelthorne Council meeting on 29th October the Liberal Democrat group proposed a motion seeking to get the Council to sign-up to the 10:10 campaign. This is a grass roots campaign to get individuals and organisations to cut their energy consumption by 10% in 2010 to help arrest the progress of climate change.
David Wilshire has been forced to stand down at the next election after the Tory-supporting Daily Telegraph attacked him for abusing the House of Commons expenses system by paying for "research services" from a company he owns. He is reported as having claimed over £105k in 3 year period.
Two major developments are being proposed by developers for sites in Lower Sunbury. Between them the developments would comprise about 400 units with over 300 on the London Irish site and 88 at the Environment Agency on Fordbridge Road.
Local Liberal Democrat campaigner, Richard Dunn, came so close to winning in the traditionally safe Tory seat of Laleham and Shepperton Green. The Conservative majority of 618 in May 2007 was reduced to just 72 votes in this by-election.
